May is an extremely busy month for the club. On top of our normal Saturday morning coached sessions we see the return of our open Wednesday Night Practice sessions – this year taking place at Fforest Fawr at least until the end of the school summer term. Meet in the sculpture trail car park at 6:30pm on a Wednesday evening ready to ride at 6:45pm prompt. The sessions are suitable for age 8 and above (including adults) and will consist of rides with some coaching thrown in for good measure.
We have our Rhondda Tunnel Family Ride on Saturday 5th May (all usual Hailey Park coaching sessions will be cancelled for this week). The ride is suitable for all ages and comprises of a trip on the train up to Treherbert where we will take an approx 2 mile cycle to the Rhondda Tunnel, then receive a talk from the Rhondda Tunnel Society about the project (aimed at the children), packed lunch and watch a video of a train ride through the tunnel before riding back to the station to catch a train home.
In addition to that, throughout the month we will be supporting Weksh Cycling’s Let’s Ride Pop Up in Llandaff Fields, we have riders in the Carten and we will be present and participating in the HSBC City Ride on 13th May when Cardiff City Centre will be traffic free.
As if that’s not enough we will also be racing in the Spring Crits Freewheel at Llandow Circuit on 8th and 15th May and the Welsh Mountain Bike Cross Country on 20th in Aberystwyth.
The month is rounded off with the Welsh Cycling Club Clusters for riders aged 10-16 during the May half term holiday.
