Award Winners!!

We are delighted to announce that we were awarded the Welsh Cycling/HSBC Go-Ride Club of the Year at the Welsh Cycling Awards on 20th October.  This really does mean so much to us all as the family cycling is at the heart of our club.

We were also delighted to have been nominated and Runners up in the Club of the Year category and the Coach of the Year for Zoë.

Everyone who attended the awards dinner had an amazing time.  It’s lovely to see what’s going on at all the clubs and have a chance to dress up and socialise.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our club.

Round up of the Summer and looking ahead to the Autumn/Winter

What an incredible summer season we have had!!

Membership numbers in the Junior coached sessions have increased to the point where we are now taking new members in the age 7 and under group on specific sessions once every 6 weeks or so to cope with the demand.  Please get in touch for the next new intake date.

We have been lucky enough to be a part of some amazing events this summer with our young riders taking part in racing on the finish line of the Newport stage of the Tour of Britain, riding with Geraint Thomas through Cardiff city centre for his Homecoming event and also riding with the Team Sky Tour of Britain Team at Maindy.

Three of our Young Riders became Welsh Cycling Youth Ambassadors and our coaching team upped it’s skill base with coaches passing qualifications in MTB specific coaching, Road and Time Trial coaching and 3 coaches currently completing their Level 2 course.

Adult rides have been going really well with a number of road and social rides going out during the lovely summer evenings we have had.  These will now be switching to weekends and Wednesday afternoons.

Some of our ladies took part in their first Sportive building confidence and camaraderie all round.

We are now into the Cyclocross season with racing underway and podium places for our riders in the boys and girls Under 6’s, Under 8’s and Novice Women categories already.  Training has been taking place on Wednesday evenings and will continue throughout October, open to experienced over 8’s and adults with adult only training sessions also available through our coach Nic and his Tuesday Traverse rides with Veloadventures.  Please get in touch if you would like further information.

Our Autumn/Winter training continues with Hill Repeats Sessions on Rhiwbina Hill every Monday evening meeting at the Deri Inn at 6:30pm and we are soon to start indoor turbo trainer sessions at the Whitchurch Rugby Sports and Social Club on a Tuesday evening.

To top it all off we have been nominated for 3 awards at the Welsh Cycling Awards 2018 to be held on 20th October.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining us please get in touch through our contacts page or message us via Facebook.

An exciting Summer ahead of us

Following a great start to the summer and a hugely successful Mountain Bike Dirt Crit event we have plenty to keep everyone happy over the summer season.  Of course this is all in addition to our regular Saturday morning coached sessions which will continue throughout the summer holidays and our Wednesday night MTB rides at Fforest Fawr for confident riders aged 8+ and adults.

Adult Rides

We have 2 Adult Club Rides going out on Tuesday 17th July, one social ride to along the Taff Trail to Cardiff Bay and on slightly more challenging 2 hour ish road ride up towards Pontypridd and back through Church Village, Pentyrch and St Fagans both starting and finishing at the Whitchurch Rugby Sports and Social Club were you can stop for a post ride beverage!!  We intend for these types of rides to become more of a regular occurance but they may take a bit of bedding in to work out the best day/time of day/type of ride/speed etc so please bear with us and feedback as much as possible as we set these up.

Advancing our more experienced riders

We are also looking at some rides both on and off road during the summer holidays for our more experienced young riders in order to push them a little further with their training and improve both skill and stamina.  Further details will be available as soon as possible.

Maindy Track and Closed Road sessions

The first two of our 4 monthly Maindy Sessions have been hugely popular with a number of both young and adult riders working really hard on group riding and race skills.  Dates of the remaining 2 sessions are Friday 10th August and Saturday 14th September.

Family Social Ride

We have a Family Social Ride along the Taff Trail to Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd/Ponty Lido on Saturday 11th August with an extended and more challenging route to be provided for those who want to push the ride a little further and a shortened route for the youngest of our riders in order that everyone can take part.  This will culminate in lunch at the cafe/picnic in the park and a play in the play area or even a swim in the lido itself.

Welsh Wanderer Sportive

There are many Sportives taking place during the month and we will be focussing on the Welsh Wanderer in Monmouth on the Bank Holiday weekend – Sunday 26th August where there are 2 Sportive distances and a free 8 mile family ride all with fully marked courses and finishers medals.  Further details can be found via the link below.

We hope to make this a great club day out and summer party!! A prize draw for members is taking place to win free Sportive places – e-mail details have been sent to club members with details of how to enter.

Cyclocross Race Day

The summer season will culminate in our Club Cyclocross Race Day at Coryton Primary School on 1st September which will give all our riders a taster of what to expect in the  CX season from September onwards.

Adult Club Rides

Following our second Birthday we now launch our Adult Club Rides.

In addition to that, throughout the month we will be supporting Weksh Cycling’s Let’s Ride Pop Up in Llandaff Fields, we have riders in the Carten and we will be present and participating in the HSBC City Ride on 13th May when Cardiff City Centre will be traffic free.
